at Hampton Court the 7th. day of
January-1720/1

William Cockeril< no role > one of his Majesties Game Ksepers
with in the Honour & Manor of Hampton , in the St County
of Middx being Sworn & Examined Deposeth That on the
4th. Day of This Instant January, he in the Evening of ye same
day found Three Snares set in the Hare Warren in his Majties.
Park called Bushy Park , fit and proper for Catching of Hare [..]
and that he the Sd Depont. sate up all night that night to
watch for who should come to look for what Hares might
be taken in any of the Sd. Snares, And saith that abt Seven
of the Clock the next Morning he saw one John Jarvis< no role > a
person who had been long suspected to be a Setter of such
Guins or Snares, within the Sd. Park Pale, in that part of the
park where no way or path was, and the Depont. observed
the Sd Jervis to go directly to two of the Sd Snares & to stoop
to them As examining if any Hare had been caught and
also saw him this sd Jarvis going to several other Places as Examining
in like manner Wereupon the Depont. went from the place
where he was hid. and served on the Sd. Jarvis, and Examined
him what he did in the park out of any path who pretended
he was going to work at Hampton at one Mr Spencers, and
the Depont. afterwards searched as near as he could remember
the other places where the Sd. Jarvis Stooped, and found Six
other Snares, and a hare dead in one of them, And also asked
the Sd. Mr. Spencer whetther the Sd. Jarvis was on the fifth
day of this Just [..] to be at work at his house who Answered
he was not, And the Dept for these and other reasons verily
beleives the Sd Snares or Guins were set. by the Sd Javis
