The Examination of Ann Butt< no role > of ye Parish of St. Ann
taken upon Oath before me Robt. Perryman< no role > one of her
Majties Justices of the Peace [..] for thesd. County and Liberty
on friday the 14th. day of October 1709

This Examt. saith that on Wednesday the fifth day of October 1709 one
Elizabeth Cross< no role > Came to the house of one Robert Gardiner< no role > where this
Examt: lodged, and offered a pair of painted Callicoe to this Examt. to sell for
the value of Six pence which this Examt. after some words passing beh [..]
and the sd. Elizabeth Cross. bought of her thesd. Cross for three pence, and
that she this Examt: seeing a flowered velvet Cushion upon the sd. Cross. head
asked the sd. Cross what she was going to do wth. thesd. Cushion upon which
she the sd. Cross replyed that it was the seat of her husbands Chair. for Sodan [..]
and thats he was parted from her husband and that she was going to sell
it to a Broker inLaneL [..] Acre where she had sold all her Goods and that
thereupon this Examt. desired to See the sd. Cushion or Seat and that she the
sd. Examt. might as well buy it a another. and that asking the sd. Cross
the price of thesd. Cushion she offered it to this Examt. for Eighteen pence and
that she this Examt. offered her Eight pence provided it was honestly come by
and that the thesd. Cross protected to this Examt. that the sd. Cushion or
Seat was her husbands and bid this Examt. take if for Eight pence as she
has Offered her. whereupon this Examt. paid her Eight pence for the sd. Cushion
or Seat and asked the sd. Cross what her Name was and where she lived, and
that she thesd. Cross told this Examt. that she lived at the Royal Oak in
Rupert Street and that she might be found then by the Name of Bay
Dukinson

thesd. Cross might not come honestly by thesd. Cushion or Seat followed the
sd. Cross to the end of the Street where she this Examt: lost sight of her the
sd. Cross. and upon Enquiring at she lodgings where the sd. Cross had told
the Examt. she might be found. and upon finding that thesd. Cros had given
wrong directions. went to several Chairman in Leicester fields to knew
if any of them had lost such a Cushion or Seat as she this Examt. [..]
