The Information of Samuel Bray< no role > of the Parish
of St Margarets Westmr . Farrier
This Informant sayeth that [..] Constable for the said City and liberty and that
on Fryday the Eighteenth day of his Instant. [..] March he in [..] to [..]
precepts directed to him and signed and sealed by the Commrs. for that purpose
to impressable bodied men for the Land Service made search after such and
other lewd and disorderly Persons in the nightas the same dayand in his hath
he found about nine o Clock near the Playhouse in Drury Lane one Anne Dickins< no role > This name instance is in set 3817.
a reputed common whore and a loose Idle disorderly Person plying there who he took
into his Custody in order to carry her before a Justice of Peace but at [..]
Assistants were going along with her over Covent Garden to secure the said
Anne Dickins< no role > This name instance is in set 3817. they were without the least provocation given by them violently
assaulted with swords drawn by William Arch< no role > Jeremiah Tooley< no role > and John
Clawson
< no role > who with dread full oaths and Imprecations demanded the said Anne
Dickins
< no role > This name instance is in set 3817. from him the said Samuel Bray< no role > , the said three Soldiers saying these (meaning this Informant
and his Assistants) are the Informing Dogs whereupon this Informant told the
said Arch Tooley and Clawson he was the Queens Officer and about she
Queens business and that the woman was his prisoner and shewed them his
Constables Staff and charged them in the Queens names to keep the Peace
upon which they the said Arch Tooley and Clawson put up their sword
and went a little way off and this Informant and his Asistants [..] at
about their business but they the said Arch, Tooley and Clawson soon, [..]
upon him this Informant and his Assistants again and in the same violent names
(without the least provocation given as foresaid) assaulted him and them with [..]
swords drawn and then John Dent< no role > This name instance is in set 2759. whom he had before charged to his aid came into
his Assistance and the said John Dent< no role > did till the said Arch Tooley and Clawson
that they (meaning this Informant and his Assistants) were, serving the Queen and
that they did not in the least meddle with them and therefore begged them so
be quiet and go about their business but still persisted in their outrage
and made severall thrusts and [..] their Rashed Swords at this Informants
and his Assistants among whom was the said John Dent< no role > and presently after this
Informant was told that the said John Dent< no role > was [..] nded by the said Arch Tooley and
Clawson of which wound as this Informant verily believes in about half [..]
hours time after the said John Dent< no role > died And This Informant further sayeth that
he was wounded in the hand by one of the said Sessions Vizt Arch Tooley or [..]
and that he did not [..] see any of his Assistants Strike any [..]
till after the said John Dent< no role > was wounded.
