It being represented unto this Court that of late many persons have [..]
their Escape from out of the Custody of the Keeper of New Prison at Clerkenwell
especially one William Mackenzie< no role > a person Convicted of Felony and a
sentence of death Joseph Caddy< no role > a person committed on a Charge of felony
Burglary and George Bartington< no role > a person Convicted on a like charge of [..]
and Burglary that the said Three felons had been permitted with the
Privity of the Keeper of New Prison to be and remain between the outer and
interior gates of the Prison that the said Mackenzie and Caddy though
Committed for such Capital Crimes and permitted to be in so insecure [..]
improper a part of the Prison were not fettered or otherwise properly
attended and that in Consequence thereof the said Three Present is effect [..]
Escape And Mr Samuel Newport< no role > the Keeper of the said Prison be [..]
Examined touching the Premises and acknowledging the truth th [..]

Resolved Unanimously it appears unto
Court that Samuel Newport< no role > Gentleman Keeper of New Prison at Cle [..]
was Guilty of personal negligence in respect to the Custody of William
Mackenzie
< no role > Joseph Caddy< no role > and George Bartington< no role > three of the Prison
who escaped from out of his Prison It appearing also unto this Court
the said Three felons have been retaken and are now again in the [..]
of the said Keeper of New Prison that the said Samuel Newport< no role > ha [..]
very vigilent in his Search after the said three felons and was in g [..]
danger of loosing his life in an attempt to retake them and hath [..]
a very Considerable Expence for their Recaption

Resolved that in Consequence of the Conduct [..]
Samuel Newport< no role > in retaking the said three felons the Court de [..]
proceed to that Censure which he would otherwise deserve
