To His Majesty< no role > 's Justices of the Peace for the City of London at their General
Sessions holden at the Guildhall in and for the same City on Monday the 1st:
Day of July 1782 .

The Humble Petition of Anthony Pye< no role > Esqr : Principal in behalf of himself and the
rest of the Ancients of the [..] of Barnards Inn in the City of London .

Sheweth


That your Petitioners did in [..] Term last commence their Action in his Majesty< no role > 's
of Kings Bench at Westminster [..] Thomas Wright< no role > and Evan Pugh< no role > Esqrs : two of the
Inhabitants of the said City of London for the Recovery of the Damages Sustained by your
Petitioners by reason of the [..] and Tumultuous Assembly of divers Persons to the
Number of Twelve and more [..] of London in the Parish of Saint Andrew Holbourn
in the Ward of Farringdon without [..] 7th: day of June in the Year of our Lord 1780 and then a
there unlawfully Feloniously and [..] demolishing Seventeen Dwelling houses and two
Outhouses of them the said Anthony and Ancients of the said Society of Barnards Inn aforesaid
Situate Standing and being in the Ward aforesaid within the City of London aforesaid and part and
Parcel of Barnards Inn aforesaid

That your Petitioners having Declared in such Action the Defendts: Pleaded thereto And the
Cause being thereupon at Issue the [..] came on to be and was tried before The Right Honourable
William Earl< no role > of Mansfield on Thursday the 14th: day of February being the Sittings after Hilary Term< no role >
last past at the Guildhall in and for the said City of London when a Verdict was found for your
Petitioners for the Sum of £1899 [..] Amount of the Damages so by your Petitioners
Sustained besides your Petitioners Costs of Suit

That your Petitioners have since the Trial of the said Cause got their Costs Charges & Expences
of the said Action and Trial duly and in the usual manner Taxed by the Proper Officer of the said
Court of Kings Bench and which said Costs have been Taxed and Settled at the Sum of £45.

That your Petitioners did [..] day of May Instant duly Obtain & Sign final Judgment
in the said Action in the said Court of King's Bench against the said Thomas Wright< no role > & Evan Pugh< no role >
the Defendts: therein for the said Sums of £1899 and £45 making together the Sum of £1944 being
the whole Amount of the Damages & Costs so by your Petitioners Sustained in the manner and on
that Occasion aforesaid which said final Judgment now remains entred up upon Record in full Force in
the said Court.

That your Petitioners have lately [..] their said Judgment so Obtained as aforesaid [..] out his
Majestys Writ of Levari Facias in [..] Court of Kings Bench against the said Defendts; in the said
Action for the raising & Levying your Petitioners said Damages & Costs And have Pursuant to the
Statute or Statutes in such Case made Provided delivered the said Writ to the late Sheriffs of the said
City of London to be by them Presented & delivered to your Worships in Order that your Petitioners
Damages & Costs may be raised levied & Collected on the Goods & Chattels of the said Inhabitants within
the said City according to the Directions contained in the said Statute or Statutes.

Your Petitioners the said Anthony Pye< no role > and Ancients of the said Society of Barnards Inn
aforesaid the Plaintiffs [..] said Action, therefore humbly request your Worships the
you will immediately [..] said Sum of £1944 to be raised Levied and Collected
on the Inhabitants of the City of London And to be afterwards paid to your
Petitioners the [..] being the Persons intitled thereto And that there
Sum may be raised [..] Collected and Paid in such manner and form and by such
Ways and means [..] mentioned and expressed in and by and shall be Pursuant to the
Statute or Statutes [..] made & Provided And Particularly the Statutes made
the 27th: Year of the Reign [..] Queen Elizabeth, the first Year of the Reign of King Geo [..]
the first and the 2d; and the [..] 2d. years of the Reign of King George the 2d; And that [..]
will be Pleased to make [..] and Grant such Precept and Precepts Order and Orders [..]
of Sessions for the Purposes aforesaid as to your Worships shall seem meet and
Proper.

And your Petitioners shall ever Pray Etc.
