Henry Mynott< no role > Servant to Robert Nixon< no role > of Tokenhouse Yard
in the City of London Esquire maketh Oath and Saith that some time in
or about the beginning of December now last past James Potts< no role > was
apprehended on Suspicion of having stolen a Coachmans blue Great Coat
(the Property of the said Robert Nixon and which this Deponent usually
more)out of the Chariot of the said Robert Nixon which the same Chariot
was standing at Livery at the Swan and Hoop Livery Stable , at Moorgate
And this Deponent Saith that on the said James Potts being Examined
before John Sawbridge< no role > Esquire Lord Mayor of this City if appeared clearly that
the said James Potts had stolen the said Great Coatd the said James Potts
being asked to entest in the East India Companys Service as a Soldier
he then declined and he was thereupon immediately ordered to be Committed
to the Compter and this Deponent together with John Jennings< no role > the Keeper
of the said James Potts had sold the Coat as entered into a Recognizance
to prosecute the said James Potts for stealing the said Coat And this Deponent
saith that Immediately after the said Recognizance was so entered into
and withing a very little time after the said James Potts was so ordered to
be committed to the Compter as aforesaid he the said James Potts having
signified his Desire of Entering into the East India Company's Service as a
Soldiers he the said James Potts was again brought before the Lord Mayor
when the said James Potts was ordered to Enlist in the East India Companys
Service as a Soldier and was thereupon immediately ordered on board a Ship
for that purpose And this Deponent further Saith that on Saturday the
Twelfth day of this Instant October he this Deponent Received a Letter
from Mr. Reynolds the Clerk of the Astains purporting that the said
Recognizance so entered into as aforesaid would be Estreated into the
Exchange for Default of this Deponent And the said John Jennings and
Nathan Samuel< no role > appearing to prosecute the said James Potts according to the
Condition of the said Recognizance Whereupon this Deponent went to the said Mr.
Reynolds and informed him of the several Circumstances aforesaid a ponesh
the said Mr Reynolds declared that if this Deponent would get a Certificates
from the Lord Mayor that the said James Potts had entered into the East India
Companys Service as a Soldiers he the said Mr Reynolds would get the
Recognizance Discharged on this Deponent paying him the Sum of Twelve
