to James Townsend< no role > Esqr . maketh Oath and saith
that on Wednesday the 22d. day of June last as Dept
was driving his Curt towds. Crouch End aforesd.he [..]
said Cotter and deced. together
the deced came to Dept
and told Dept. that Cottar [..] him the deced a Sum of
money and desired Dept. to see him righted; that
thereupon the deced came up to Cotton and asked Cotton
to pay him the money which Cotton refused to do
and told him he wod. never pay him: that the deced.
then said to Cotton that he wod. not let Cotton go any
further unless he paid him; that then sd. Cotton and the
deced. having hold af rach at her Collars, they [..]
stradled a cross a Ditch and Cotton with great Force
struck the deced with the Chessell End of a Bricklayer
Hammer which Cotton had then in his hand on the
Handleft side of his Head over his left [..] a: that some
Blows passed between the deced and Cotton afterwards
and Dept. took hold of Cotton and seemed him and
never saw the deced since till this day when Dept. saw
the deced dead in St. Bartholomew's Hospital .

Anne< no role > the Widow of William Sadler< no role > the deced late of
Muzzle Hill aforesd. [..] Victualler maketh Oath and
saith that Dept. Husband having as Dept. was informed
and believes by her sd. Husband received a violent Blow
from John Cotton< no role > with a Bricklayers Hammer on
Wednesday the 22d. of June last her sd. Husband was the
same Evening conveyed to St. Bartholomew's Hospital
to be taken care of that on the Friday Morning Dept.
went to the sd. Hospital to see the deced. who then appeared
to be tolerably well, but complained of a pain in her hand
that the deced then told Dept. that Cotton had struck him [..]
the Hammer as aforesd: that on the Monday & Tuesday
following the deced appeared to be very ill and said that
he thought himself in a dangerous way and on the sd. Tuesday
the deced uprated what he had before said to Dept. of Cotton
having struck him with the Hammer as aforesd. says she
was present when the deced died wch was on Saturday the
9th. inst. and Dept. verily believes thatthhis Death was
occasioned by the Blow given him with the sd. Hammer
by the sd. Cotton.
