Henry Wilmot< no role > of Tottenham High Cross in the
Parish of Tottenham in the County of Middx . Farmer
maketh Oath and saith that on Wednesday the 22d.
day of June last Dept. being on Horse back he saw the
deced and John Cotton< no role > together at Crouch End aforesd.
and there saw the deced lay hold of sd. Cotton by the
Collar and the deced appearing to be stronger then
sd. Cotton he shoved sd. Cotton across a Ditch there;
and the deced having hold of sd. Cotton's Collar at the
same time Cotton Struck the deced [..]
Edge of a Bricklayers Hammer [..] which he had
in his Hand with the Chissell Edge of the sd.
Hammer with great force upon the left side of the
Head, on which a Scuffle in said, between the deced
and Cotton, and they both soon falldownto the Ground
the deced being undermost; thatthey both gotbefore
they fall Dept. observed that Cotton attempted to strike
the deced, with his Fist where he had before struck
him with the Hammer and did strike the deced.
in that place or near it Cotton's Fist being very
bloody that Dept. heard the deced say will not [..] lay
hold of him, meaning sd. Cotton; says he Dept. then
[..] the deced since [..]
this day when Dept. saw the deced dead in Saint
Bartholomew's Hospital.

William King< no role > of Crouch End aforesd. Farrier maketh
Oath and saith that standing near this Depts. own House
he saw sd. Cotton and the deced walking together the deced
having hold of Cotton's Collar, and when they advanced near
to Dept. and Mr. Wilmot, the deced asked Cotton for 13½
which Cotton [..] the deced on wch Cotton said he wod.
not pay the deced, whereupon a Scuffle moved between
Cotton and the deced. andCotton pushthe deced Pushed Cotton
agt. Depts. Hedge both having hold of each others Collars and
then sd. Cotton struck the deced with great Violence with
the Chissell End of an Hammer which Cotton then had in
his hand, that a Scuffle then in said between the deced and
Cotton and Cotton then struck the deced with his Fist upon
or near the Place where Cotton had just before struck the
deced. with the Hammer: that presently afterwards
Cotton was taken to a Constable's who took Cotton before [..]
a Justice of the Peace as Dept. hath been informed and believes
who as Dept. hath likewise being informed and believes
commited Cotton tothe New Prison Clerkenwell and Dept.
never saw the deced afterwards till this day when Dept. and
Whom dead in St. Bartholomew's Hospital
