John Batt< no role > Servant to Martha Law< no role > all of Hendon
near Hamstead afsd. Widow maketh Oath that about a
Fortnight or 3 Weeks ago but the particular day he can't
rember but is certain it was on a Saturday abt. & in the Evening & the the very
same Evening when the deced was brought home speechless
that two persons unknown to Dept. came to the sd. Mr.
Laurel's House at Hendon afsd. in Order as Dept. believe
to break into and robb the same, they having attempted to
force two of the doors: that Dept. thereupon took a Machel
charged with Gun Lowder and large Shot and went up
Stairs with it and fired from a Window of the first
Story at one of the two persons but it being cloudy
can not form any Judgment wher. Dept. his him
or not; that Dept did not hear him cry out nor did Dept.
afterwards [..] discover any Blood about the place

of John Milkin< no role > of the same place Husbandman maketh
Oath that on Saturday the 4th. inst. [..] abt. half an hour after to in
the Evening Mr. Isaac Messater< no role > Surveyor came to Depts. and
told Dept. that a manlaid in the Road, on wch Dept. went to look
for him with a Candles Lanthom, that after some little time
Dept. found the decedlying [..] his two Brors. having each
hold of one of his Arms, that Dept. heard nothing that passed
and frighted [..] them part of the way & affired his Serviced to assist
in geting him home.

Isaac Messeder< no role > of Hamstead afsd. Land Surveyer maketh
Oath & saith that on Saturday the 4th. inst. as he was going over
Hamstead Heath in his way to North End he passed by the a Men
one of them on the ground appearing to Dept. at first to be very
drink and the other two having hold of him & endeavouring to
put him upon his Legs. That Dept. passed them & stood still a
little to listen to discover what was the matter: that Dept. heard
one of the men say, that if he cod. have [..] imagined what wd.
have happened he wod. not have come out and also the same or
the other person to say, that this was an old Grudge, & that if he
could have thought wh. wod. have happened that neither wod. he have
come. That Dept. & Milk in saw the two men aid the deced &
Richard Milkin< no role > having a Candle & Lanthorn [..] lighted them part
of the way by a Pond of Water there & then Dept. & d. Melkin
left them.
