Arrowsmith

Notes or Bills of Exchange knowing
the same to be Forged

William Luddeat< no role > of Painswick in the County of
Gloucester Shopkeeper maketh Oath that he this Depont.
was present at the Tryal of Edward Wilson< no role > who was
tried & Convicted for Forgery at the last Assizes held
for the County of Gloucester and saith that the now
Defendant Samuel Arrowsmith< no role > was the Prosecutor
& the Principal Evidence in Convicting the said
Edward Wilson< no role > & without whose Evidence the said
Edward Wilson< no role > could not then have been convicted as
this Deponent verily Believes And this Deponent
further saith that the said Defendant Samuel
Arrowsmith was immediatly after such Conviction
taken into Custody on a Warrant granted by the Lord
Mayor of London on suspicion of being guilty of
publishing some Drafts for money knowing them
to be forged with an Intent to defraud and the said
Defendant was soon afterwards brought to London
in Custody in Order to be tryed thereupon still
remains a Prisoner confined in Irons in Newgate
on the said accusation And this Deponent further
saith he hath heard & believes that the said Drafts
were procured by the said Edward Wilson< no role > & by him
passed & negociated to the said now Defendant
Arrowsmith & that if such Drafts were forged by the
said Edward Wilson< no role > or his procurement he this Department
really believes the said Defendant Arrowsmith knew
nothing of the same being so forged and further saith
that the said Defendant Arrow smith expecting to
be tried at this present Sessions at the Old Bailey on
this Occasion hath at a very great Expence procured
a great Number of reputable Witnesses to come
out of Gloucestershire about one hundred Miles or
more from their respective places of Habitation to
