Sometime ago (that is to Say) On Monday the Twelfth day of July in the Sixteenth Year of the reign of
our Sovereign Lord George the Second King of Great Britain Etc at the General Quarter Session of the Peace
of our Lord the King holden for the City of London at the Guildhall within the said City Before George Heathcote< no role >
Esquire Mayor of the City of London Sir John Strange< no role > Knight Recorder of the said City Sir John Salter< no role > Knight
Robert Westley< no role > Esquire Aldermen of the said City and others their fellows Justices assigned to keep the peace
of our said Lord the King within the said City And Also to hear and determine divers Felonys Trespasses and
other Misdeeds committed within the Same City upon the oath of Twelve Jurors good and lawful men of the
said City of London then and there being Sworn and charged to enquire for our said Lord the King And for
the Body of the said City It was presented as followeth (that is to Say) London to Wit The Jurors for our
Lord the King upon their oath present That William Viner< no role > late of London Staymaker on the first day of
January in the Fifteenth year of the reign of our Sovereign Lord George the Second King of Great Britain
France & Ireland Defender of the Faith Etc And divers other days and times between that day and the
Day of the taking of this Inquisition with force and Arms at London to Wit in the Parish of Saint Martin
Ludgate in the Ward of Farringdon without in London aforesaid did keep and maintain and Yet doth keep
and Maintain a Certain Common ill governed and disorderly House and in his said House for his own Lucre
and gain Certain Evil and ill disposed Persons As well Men as Women of Evil Name and Fame and of
dishonest Conversation to frequent and come together then and the said other Days and times there
Unlawfully and wilfully did Cause and procure the Said Men and Women in his said House at unlwfull
times as well in the Night as in the Day then and the said other Days and times there to be and remain
Drinking, Tipling, Whoring, and Misbehaving themselves unlawfully and willingly did permit and
yet doth Permitt To the great Damage and Common Nusance of all the Subjects of our said Lord the
King and Against the Peace of our said Lord the King his Crown and Dignity Which said
Indictment Our said Lord the King did afterwards for Certain Reasons cause to be brought before him
to be determined according to the Law and Custom of England Wherefore the Sheriffs of the said City
of London were Commanded that they should cause him to come to answer to our said Lord the King
touching and concerning the premisses aforesaid And Now (that is to Say) on Monday next after
the Octave of Saint Hilary in this Same Term before our said Lord the King at Westminster cometh the
said William Viner< no role > by Christopher Burrow< no role > his Attorney and having heard the said Indictment read
he Saith that he is not Guilty thereof And hereupon he putteth himself upon the County And James
Burrow Esquire Coroner and Attorney of our said Lord the King in the Court of our said Lord the King
before the King himself who prosecuteth for our said Lord the King in this behalf doth the like.
