William Van Lente< no role > of Oldford in ye County of Middx ScarLt Dyer Procecutor in this
Cause & Leonard Swanson< no role > of the same Pleace Labourer Severally make oath as
followeth, And furst the sd Wm Van Lente saith That having Received notice that ye Deft.
Intends to Bring on the Indictmt. in this Cause for Tryall this prsent Sessions at Justice
hall in the Old Bayly, he this Dept. Accordingly servt ye other dept. swanson to Inquire
after one CLemt. Farnham< no role > , in order to subpena him as Wittnes in this cause
And also to Inquire of one John Cope< no role > in order to Subpena him also for &
Wittness in this Cause, And the Dept. Swanson Saith that by the order of ye other
Dept. Wm Van Lente he this Dept. Went to the Lodging of the sd Farnham in
Piccadilly in the County of middx , wch. was the Last Place of abode of the sd
Farnham as this Dept. Was Informed & Verily beleives;- And There was
Informed by John Gast< no role > , his Land Lord that the sd Farnham was gone in the
Contry & that he did not know when he would Returne, nor Could direct this Dept.
where he was or how to find him, And this Dept. also went to the Lodging of
the sd John Cope in St. Martins Laine in ye sd County of middx., and there was
informed by Mrs Anstins (his Land Lady as this Dept beleives She was) that the
said John Cope was gone into ye Contry on Sunday Last, to stay sometime,
and that she could not direct this Dept how to find him, and the other Dept.
Wm Van Lente Saith that the sd Farnham & the sd John Cope, are boath materiall
Wittnesses for him ye Procecutor in this Cause, and without their Evidence this
Dept Cannot Safely Trye the sd Indictmt, and for the Reasons aforesaid.
Cannot Procure the sd Farnham nor the sd cope as witness on this Indictmt,
this Sessions, but beleives he may be able to Procure them at ye Tryall of
this Indictmt next sessions, and Swanson the other Dept. saith that he on
the 26th Instant Left notice with Mr Jones the Defts attarney agent or
solicitor on this Indictmt Purporting that this Court Will be moved this prest.
Saturday or so soone after as Counsell can be heard, That the Defts Tryall
of ye Indictmt may be Put of till next Sessions afterwards or to that or the
Like Effect
