Whereas William Gratwicke< no role > son of Thomas Gratwicke< no role > of Ham in the County of Sussex Gentleman by
Indenture beareing date on or about the Fifteenth day of June last past before the date of these prsents
Hath put himselfe Apprentice unto Samuel Clarke< no role > Citizen and Mercer of London Merchant Adventures
of England and free of the East Hand Company to learne his Art and with him after the manner of
an Apprentice of to serve from the day of the date thereof unto the full end and terme of Eight years
from thence [..] following to be fully compleate and ended As by the recited Indenture amongs
other things therein conteyned relacon being thereunto had more plainly may appeare And
whereas it was agreed upon by the said Thomas Gratwicke and the said Samuel Clarke< no role > at and
before the Se [..] ing and executeing the said Indenture That the said Samuel Clarke< no role > should at
the end of the First Six yeares of the said terme of Eight yeares send his said Apprentice as
then liveing [..] Hambrough Dantzick or else where to remaine and continue there Two
years at least for the better improvement of the said Apprentice in the way of merchandizes
and should permitt and Sufferr the said Apprentice to deale and trade for himselfe in any
goods and merchandizes whatsoever dureing the last years of the said terme of Eight years
save onely in ye Wollon [..] mann Facture which he is not to doe without the consent of his said Master
Now these prsents witnesse That the said Samuel Clarke< no role > (pursuant to the said Agreement) Doth
herely for himselfe the executors and Adminstrators covenant promise and agree to and
with the said Thomas Gratwicke< no role > his executors adminstrators and assignee That he the said
Samuel Clarke< no role > shall and will at or before the end or expiracon of the First Six years of the said
terme of Eight yeares comenceing from the date of the said Indenture at his owne charges
Send over the said William the Apprentice to Hambrough Dantzick or else where thereto
reside and continue dureing the full time and space of Two yeare or near thereabouts Allowing
his said Apprentice at the rate of One hundred and twenty Dollars Currant money per Annum for
the said two half years of his said Apprentishipsuch time as he shall continue there on his Masters account for his maintenance for the
Sitting and improving the said Apprentice in the trade and affairs of the Country and
shall and will else permitt and sufferr the said William his said Apprentice to deale and trade in
the name of him the said Samuel Clarke< no role > or otherwise in any goods wares and merchandizes
whatsoever dureing the last yeare of the said terme of Eight years comenceing as aforesaid Other
then and excepting Wollen manufacturer [..] which he is expressely hereby decarred and hundred from dealing
or tradeing in dureing the said last yeare without the Spetiall licence and consent of the said
Samuel Clarke< no role > his Execradmidr an writeing therefore first had and obtained under his or their
hand or hands & seale or seales The said Indenture or any thing therein contained or any Lane
use or Custome to the contrary in any wise notwithstanding In witnesse whereof the said
Samuel Clarke< no role > hath hereto sett the hand and seale the Sixteenth day of May Anno Dm
1695 And in the Seaventh year of the reigne of King William the Third of England
