Wee the Grand Jury for the City of London Sworne to enquire for sr
Soweigne Lord & Lady the King & Queene att the Sessions of Peace & Oyer and
Trimner held att Justice hall in the old Bailey London the 15th. January 1693/4
Doe prsent

That greate numbers of loose idle & ill disposed persons from all partes of this
kingdome doe resorte unto this City & partes adiacent And doe here shelter themselves
not following any lawfull callings or employmts. And haveing noe visible estates or honest
way to mainteyne themselves doe turne Robbers on the highway Burglarers Pickpockets
and Gainesters [..] that follow other unlawfull wayes to supporte themselves
And to mainteyne their Vices & Debancheries not onely to the will example of others
but alsoe to the greate damage of their Maties. honest & industrious Subjects
For prvention whereof Wee doe humbly represent it to the serious consideration
of yor. Lopp. & this Honble. Courte That some expedient may be found out
and that an effectuall & dilligent search may be made in this City & the partes
adiacent for the discovery of such lewd idle & daingerous Persons And more
especially for such as are able & young and fitt to serve their Maties. in the Warrs
abroad against the comon Enemy.

And that this honble. Courte would be pleased soe farr as in them her
to endeavour the obtaining an effectuall Law to compell them soe to doe
Which Wee doe humbly conceive will not only be highly serviceable to
their Maties. But will alsoe be a greate meanes to prvent Robberies Fellonies
Burglaries & other Crimes & misdemeanors wch. doe daily abound in & neere this City
And doe bring many Young & able Persons to untimely ends by the hands of Justice
whoe otherwise wright have beene very serviceable to this nation In witnesse
Whereof Wee have hereunto sett sr. hands the day & yeare first above written.
