The Informations of John Barber< no role > of King Street Deptford
in the County of Kent Waterman and John Ellis< no role > an Apprentice to
John Wood< no role > of High Street Shudid O Dilot Taken this First day
April 1789 before me One of his Majestys Justices of the Peace in and
for the said County.

Who being on their Oaths Severally Say and first the said John Barker< no role >
for himself Saith that On Saturday night last between Eight and nine
O Clock. he made Fast his Bout to one of the Chains at the upper Water
Gate at Deptford . That about Ten O Clock on Sunday night he went
down to See if his Boat was Safe when he discovered she had been taken
away by some person or persons to this Informant unknown, That the
next morning he was Informed by Thomas Jones< no role > that his Boat was
detained at Bill Wharf for having hurt, Stolen Goods in her, That he
Accordingly came to Bill Wharf and Saw the said Boat which [..]
is the Boat he so fastened in Saturday night last at the Upper Water Gate
and had been taken away as aforesaidAnd this Informant
John Ellis< no role > for himself Saith that between Ten and Eleven O Clock on
Sunday night last he was going with a Tare from Bell Wharf On Board
the Ship William lying in Bill Wharf half Tier, and that he saw a Boat
in which were two men quitlong off from the Bow of the Vessell to Drop
a Stern when Informant diseveral the Harvser now produced hanging
a longside the Cable which appeared to those Informant to have been Cut with
a Knife, Saith [..] the man [..] (who had the Hutts) then Rowed away
and Informant Suspecting that they were the persons who had Cut the said Rope
Rowed after them and when he got alongside asked where they were going
who replied they were going home but that if Informant would go down to
Stones Stairs they or he would Settle it with him when they precipitately rowed
away to Ratcliff Cross and Informant after them and upon [..]
their Landing at Ratcliff Cross he called out Stop Thief when they ran up the
Stepney Causeway and Endeavered to Escaped that One of the Men did get away
but the person now present who says his Name is John Lindsay< no role > was Soon
after Stopped by John Brock< no role > and secured and brought 10 Informant.
And that he verily believes he is one of the persons who was in the Boat and
who ran away on his calling out Stop Thief.
