both said Letter as she received them to her said Master
And the said James Willes< no role > for himself Saith that he,
received two Letters on said Evening from the said Ann Lee< no role >
that one of them is the Letter now produced Signed Wm.
Heynes
< no role > dated Chipping Norton Tuesday Decr. 16th 1788
that is purports to have Contained three Banbury Bank
Bills For 5 Guineas Each that on Opening the said
Letter this Informant Observed that the Wafer was
Wet and on Examining the Contents of the Letter found
that it Contained only two Banbury Bank Biles for Five
Guineas Each, That the Informant on the same
Evening Wrote to Mr. Heynes at Chipping Norton And
Informed him that he had received only two Bills in his
said Letter And on the 20th received another Letter from
him that he had Sent three Bills & that the Missing
Bill was No. W 2907 dated Banbury Bank Octor.
20th. 1786 And further saith that he saw the said Thomas
Giles
< no role > on Friday Morning the 19th Instant and enquired
of him concerning the Opening of the said Letter when
the said Thos. Giles< no role > denied all knowledge of it And
this Informant saith this the said Thomas Giles< no role > soon
afterward returned to this Informant and
voluntarily Acknowledged that he had Opened the
Said Letteron Lambeth Marsh a little Distance
from Informants House
And gave for a reason that
having Omitted to deliver it he Opened it for the purpose
of knowing whether it was of Consequence to delay
the Delivery till the next day & observing it to
Contain Bills he immediately returned with it to
Mr Willes's That the sd. Thomas Giles< no role > denied having
taken any Bill thereout but Promised this Informant
to make up to him the Value of the Bill if he would
not Make known the Circumstance at the Post
Office
