Robert Lells of the Nine Elms

Lighterman
maketh Oath and Saith that he
was bound by Recognizance in the Month of August last to
appear at the then next Session to be holden for the County of
Middlesex
on the 12th September last at the Session House on
Clerkenwell Green
in and for the said County to prefer a Bill of
Indictment and prosecute the Law with effect against the above
named Richard Griffiths< no role >
for feloniously stealing four hempen
Sack's value ten Shillingsthe property
of this Deponent That [..] early in the Morning of the 10th day
of the said Month of September he this Deponent left
Battersea
aforesaid with a Lighter loaded with Goods
for London and did not return to Battersea
until very late
in the Evening of theeleventh following That on the twelfth of said
Month of September he this Deponent attended at the
Session house aforesaid in order to preferr a Bill of Indictment
against the said Richard Griffiths< no role >
for the said Offence but
upon his attending at the Indictment Office for that purpose
he was informed that the other Witnesses who were bound to
give Evidence against the said Richard Griffiths< no role >
had
preferred a Bill of Indictment against the said Richard
Griffiths< no role >
for the said Offence and that such Bill was
afterwards as this Deponent was informed and believes returned
not found on account (as he this Deponent apprehends and
believes) of his not attending, before the Grand Jury to give
such Evidence as he this Deponent knew And this Deponent
further saith that his not attending to give such Evidence
before the Grand Jury was not with any view of serving
the Prisoner or from any hope of reward or Promise of reward
from any person whatever but from the cause aforesaid and
