County, this Eleventh Day of
August one Thousand, Seven
Hundred and Eight Seven

Who being duly Sworn, upon his Oath sayeth
that he as a Carpenter by Trade, lives at Hays
M [..] Berkley Square , and is lately come
from Gloucestershire , that Yesterday he was
going along Oxford Shut in the Partick of
Saint Mary le bone about Two oClock in the
Afternoon taken he was accosted by a short
Man, not Yet taken who tolk'd to him about
the Wind & Weather, that they walked up the
said Street together when in a short time
the said Man told this Informants, he saw
something upon the Foot way at a little
Distance and that he believed it to be that
some Lady Shad dropp'd her Garter, that
they went up to it, together, when it appear'd
to be a Purse, which the said Man pick'd
up and put into his Coat Pocket and prop [..]
to this Informant that he Should have a
Share of whatever was in it, and went with
him into a Field not for off to have an
Apportunity of examining it, that when there
they both Sat down upon a Bank, when the
said Mantook outopen'd the Purse and
took out a Paper or Letter, Setting him he could
not read and asked him if he could, when this
Informant replied that he was not very
[..] but would try, which he did and
Discover'd it to be a Bill and Receipt of a
Diamond Ring of the Price of 136 Guineas
