and another person took post Chaise and went to Gravesend
where they went on board the said Ship and upon Acquanting
the Commanding Office their business he was informed by
the Officer there were three persons on Board of the Name
of Davis This Informant requested That they might be
brought up and but into a place among some others
That Mr. Hunt might see if he should know Payne
which was done and Mr. Hunt went into the Cabin and
immediately pitched upon a person by the name of James
Davis
< no role > and said he had some knowledge of him And
this Informant saith That he is very well acquainted
with the person of the said James Davis< no role > That his name
is Richard Payne< no role > and the person who Stands Charged
by the Coroners Inquest with the Murder of Robinson
as before mentioned Whereupon the Officer said it was
Sufficient for him and immediately delivered the prisoner
over to this Informant who brought him to Town.

That this Informant soon afterwards told the said
Payne that he stood Charged with the Murder of the Gent
in Smarts buildings when he said if he was to be drowned
that Minute he never drew a Knife or Cut a Man in his
life-That upon this Informant acquainting him he
was in Company at the time which was as bad as if he had
done it. He said he did not deny but he was in
Company with Irish Mick (meaning Michael Wacker< no role >
now in Custody) and one Cox at the time the Affair happened
Informant asked him who had the pocket Book (meaning
a pocket Book which Mr. Hunt lost at the time) He said
he never touched it that Cox had it and that he received
in form Irish Mick and that it was Burnt in
his, Irish Mick's room, and that Cox, himself Irish
Mick and Mick's Girl was in the room at the time
