Evidence on his Majesty's behalf and on Custody Taken this forth day of November 1786 .
before me One of his Majesty's Justices of the peace in and for the next County [..]

Mark Besmell< no role > on his Oath says on Saturday Night last between the
Hours of Seven and Eight being at Execution Dock goting to his Boat with one George
Davis
< no role > he saw the Boy present who says his Name is John Scot< no role > and the other who says his name is [..] Tilford otherwise Stet coming from some
Coal Craft belonging to Mr. Elijah Goff< no role > which were lying at a Road of their near said Mr Goff
with a Bag that he asked the said John Scot< no role > what he had in the Bag who said
nothingsays he took hold of the said Bag and Stock the Two head fasts produced
out of the said BagThat he asked him how he came by them who said they did
not belong to him That they belonged to the said Robert Tilford< no role > That George [..] Davis< no role >
Took Robert Tilford< no role > [..] after name made his Escape overthe said Couptsome [..] called a Raft and That they conveyed both
of them to the said Mr. Elijah Goff< no role >

Richard Hore< no role > of Green Bank Wapping apprentice to Samuel Williams< no role > of the same
place on his Oath says in Saturday night last he saw John Scot< no role > and Robert Tilford< no role >
between the Hours of Seven and Eight between the Craft of the said Mr. Goff
as it appeared to him coming from the said Craft that John Scot< no role > otherwise Scot
as soon as that Boat Grounded Jumped out of said Boat with a Bag in which
were the Two head fasts produced that Mark Bennel< no role > laid told of John Scot< no role > and the
other made his Escape over some Timer That he lent said Mark Bennell< no role > a
hand state the said Head fasts out of the said Bag

James Adams< no role > on his Oath says the Two head fasts produced are the propose of Elijah [..]
and Edward Purnell< no role > and Thomas Whitfield< no role > of Johnson Street Old Gravel Lane George Middx
Lighterman and Dealer of Coals and That the Two head fasts now produced one the
property of his said Masters and were fast to two of his said Masters Craft at their Moving
Road near Wapping Dock in the Parish of St. John Wapping between the Hours
of Five and Six on Saturday Night last

the Craft some of which were loaded with Coals that he found [..] a Bag with the head fast [..]
in One of them which he tookof saidand put the same into a Wharry where was Robert
Tilford

Mud to get on to ard the said Croft
