Middlesex to Wit


The Information of John Douglas< no role > Mate belonging to the
Hawke Lugger in the Service of the Customs taken
before me this 7th day of July 1786

Who being upon Oath Saith that on Tuesday the 4th. of April last
being on board the Hawke Lugger Nenian Douglas< no role > Esqr . Commander
off the Lizzard in Company with the Lack, Revenue [..] Lugger
they discovered the Happy-Go-Lucky a Lugger lying under
Mullion Island and immediatly hoisted their Revenue
Colours, and gave Chace, when the said Happy Go Lucky
cut her Cables and made off towards the Lands Ends
that about seven o'Clock in the morning they came up
with her and hailed her in order to bring he to which
she paid no regard to, on which two Marquetts were
fired at her from the Hawke which she look us
Notice of, but contained crowding all the Sail she could
is order to make her escapethat in a few Minutes
after the Hawke came up along side, and immediatly
the Happy Go Lucky fired a Broad side into the
Hawke and gave three CheersUpon which an Action
began and continued for near an hour with great Warmth
on both sides, till the Lack Revenue Lugger came up
and run between the Hawke, and the Happy go Lucky, and
fired abroad side, on which she struckAnd this Informant
further saith that they then boarded the said Struggler and
found the Captain and one of the Men killed, and about eleven
woundedthat they then put the Men in Irons & conducted
them to Falmouth where they were given in Charge to the
Collector and Comptroller of that Port And this Informant
further saith that he well knows a person now present who
calls himself John Martin< no role > who was at that time on board
