Southwark

Depositions of Witnesses taken at
the Parish of Saint John within the
Borough of Southwark in the County of
Surrey this 9th: day of February 1793
on view of the Body of George Street
now here lying dead.

Mary Wife of Thomas Thorn< no role > a Rigger lodging at
the Home of Mr. Thorns next door to the White Hart
Folley Bridge in the Parish of Saint Mary Magdalen< no role >
Bermondsey maketh Oath that she hath known the deced
George Street< no role > about three years that she hath washed
for and dressed the deced Victuals sometime part that she
usually had a Key to let herself in, and out of the deced
House who was at Rigger and lived in a Court in
New Lane in the parish of Saint John within the
Borough of Southwark that Dept. left the deced in
his Bed about up part 8 OClock on Thursday Night
last and locked the Street Door & took the Rey with her
that about twenty Minutes past Eleven Yesterday
Morning Dept. went to the deceds House that she
found the Street Door fast Dept. unlocked the Door
and went in that on going into the one pair of Stairs
Room where the deced kept she found the deced
hanging by a piece of Cord fastened to a Boom [..]
the Boom hanging behind the Door by the Cord and
the Cord over the top of the Room Door Dept ran
down Stairs and gave the alarm to Mr. Rota. Public [..]
in the Neighbourhood Dept. returned again soon after
to the deceds house and one Mr. Johnson cut the deced
down that he was quite dead that at the time Dept.
left the deced in Bed on the Thursday he looked very
wild with his Eyes and appeared very dull and
Melancholy
