Depositions of Witness taken at the Parish
of Saint John within the Town and Borough
of Southwark in the County of Surrey at
the Vestry Hall of the said Parish the 5th.
day of October 1789 on Bruce Mair< no role > then
and there lying Dead

William Bacon< no role > of Mill Street in the Parish of Bermondsey
in the County of Surrey Lighteman and Robert Franks< no role > [..]
an Apprentice to John Bacon< no role > of Parish Street in the Parish
of Saint John within the Borough of Southwark in the County
of Surrey Lighterman severally make Oath and say that about ½ past
One OClock in the Afternoon of Friday last being in a Boat
off Pickle herring Stairs they heard some Sailors on board
some Vessels laying off said Stairs say there was a Drowned
Man and on looking round they saw the deceased floating
in the Water off of said Stairs that they went to the deceased
made a Rope fast to him and to used him on Shore from
whence he was conveyed up to the Bone house of said
Parish of Saint John That the found on the deceased a
Pocket Book with various papers in it and a Card where on
was Wrote Mr. Bruce Mair at Mr. Frobes No.6 Rao [..]
Court Fleet Street London in his knees of his Breeches a
pair of Silver Knee Buckles in his Shoes a pair of plated
Shoe Backles and in his right hand Breeches Pocket
a Green Silk purse containing an half Gunine [..] Gold and
two Six pences and in his Waistcoat Pocket six Copper
half pence That they examined the body of the deceased
that there were no marks of violence whatever about him

The said William Bacon< no role > upon his Oath a further sayeth that
on Friday Evening last he went to House No.6 Rackett Court
Fleet Street London agreeable to the direction on the Card which he
found on the deceased That he there saw a Young Woman
who sayed she was Mr. Forbes Daughter that he asked he if
Mr. Bruce Mair< no role > lived there she answered and asked
Dept. if he had heard of any Accident when Dept told her
he
